About 8,600 handlebar stems used on Salsa bicycles, manufactured in Taiwan and imported by Salsa Bicycles, a subsidiary of Quality Bicycle Products of Bloomington, Minn. They are recalled because the stems can crack or break, putting the rider at risk of falling. The company has received three reports of broken handlebar stems. One incident resulted in a broken wrist. They were sold by Specialty bicycle retailers around the country between November 2007 and December 2008. The aftermarket stems were sold online and at specialty bicycle retailers around the country between March and December 2008.
