CPSC issues recall for 635,000 cribs

US Recall News     updated  2010/01/20 09:49

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Friday announced a voluntary recall of more than 635,000 cribs and about 700 office chairs. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

About 635,000 Dorel Asia cribs have been recalled because the drop side hardware can fail causing the it to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches it creates a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped and suffocate or strangle. In addition, the recalled cribs can pose a serious entrapment and strangulation hazard when a slat is damaged, either in use, in storage, while being put together, taken apart or reassembled; or during shipping and handling. CPSC has received one report of an infant death, a 6-month-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and three injuries.
